Pure in Heart – Part 2

Pure in Heart – Part 2

A sermon by Ps. Ronald Politton on March 31, 2019

There is a correlation between a pure heart and an enlarged heart. As we make ourselves pure and available before God, the more God can mold and enlarge our heart. Enlargement without purity before God is a breeding ground for the devil to do his work. Our skills and knowledge can increase, but without guidance from God and humility before the Lord, this increased capacity can be used for something that is not according to God’s plan.

Matthew 15:18-19; Matthew 12:33-35

Everything comes out of the heart. A good tree produces good fruits and a bad tree produces bad fruits. Often, we tend to focus on making sure to select only the good fruits and throwing out the bad ones but we’re not attacking the root cause of the problem within the tree or the soil itself.

Matthew 5:8

Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God. Last week we learned about the meaning of “to see God”. This week, we will learn about what a pure heart is.

What is a “pure in heart”?

  1. A pure in heart is a heart that has nothing to do with falsehoold. Psalm 24:3-4

Falsehood is trying to do something so others would think or perceive us according to how we want to be perceived. In other words, we do something so we can get what we want. Falsehood is making people to perceive us as something that we are actually not. A pure heart is one who doesn’t give himself into falsehood.

  1. A pure in heart is a heart with full and total loyalty to God. James 4:8

A double-minded person won’t be able to see God. God invites us to come closer to Him, but first, if we are double-minded, we need to clean our hearts and purify our hearts before we can come closer to Him. What does it mean to be double-minded? See James 4:4. Someone who is a double-minded is someone who can’t make up their mind, in their opinion and their goal, and who is unfaithful. Jesus accepts everyone but He doesn’t approve of sins. We need to be clear in our stand and not ‘adjust’ our principle depending on who we are with.

A heart that is full of loyalty to God is giving the due focus to our fellowship with God, including our ministry within the church or God. Often, we are more concerned in fulfilling our obligation at work or school but neglecting or not giving the full preparation for our fellowship with God and ministry within the church. Luke 16:13 – we need to have the right priority in our heart.

  1. A pure in heart is a heart that fully loves God with sincerity and sacrifice. Luke 16:13

Love your God with all of your heart, not with a heart that is double-minded.

The heart of the matter is the matter of the heart. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God (Matthew 5:8). Our focus is not to be perceived as good but to have a pure heart within ourselves. Everything overflows from our heart. A pure heart is the condition to see and experience God.

Hebrew 12:14

Give every effort to live in peace with everyone and to pursue holiness because God is holy. Without holiness, we can’t see God. He wants us to experience Him. For us to experience Him, we need to have an enlarged and pure heart.
